We are spending the weekend in South Lake Tahoe. It's about 8.5 hours drive from Los Angeles. Two-thirds of Tahoe lies in California and one-third sits in the state of Nevada. Known as the sapphire of the Sierra, it is the second deepest Alpine lake in North America.
Lake Tahoe boasts the largest concentration of ski resorts in the US. It is currently the ski season, unfortunately I'm hopeless at all winter sports so it's not part of the plan for the weekend. We look forward to a relaxing weekend, enjoying the marvelous scenery of the beautiful lake.
Unfortunately, even though I had reserved a 'luxury king with lake view' at Harvey's Lake Tahoe, we didn't get one. They didn't even apologize for not being able to accommodate us. I definitely do not recommend this hotel. You're better off staying at the Marriott next door. The only reason I didn't book Marriott initially was because the building was a low-rise so there was no 'lake-view' option.
We thought we could at least take advantage of the view by eating at the restaurant on the topmost floor. Guess what? They don't open until 5 pm. The sun sets at 4.30!
Thoroughly disappointed with the hotel, we decided to cut our stay short and moved forward the Napa plan.
However, before we left, we did manage to have our meal at a lakefront restaurant.
Doesn't this look yummy? Okay, maybe not so much. But that's only because of my poor photography skills. This is steamed mussels in tomato broth with garlic bread and it was delicious! Hubby ordered the shrimp and lobster bisque but I didn't take a photo of that. He found it a little bit too salty for his taste.
We had a wonderful lunch at Riva Grill on the Lake. The restaurant's floor to ceiling windows provide a spectacular view of Lake Tahoe. I've read mixed reviews about the place but I'm happy that our visit was a pleasant one. This is the view from our table:
